Why I didn’t rush today…

I refused to rush today.

I wanted to have some time to drink some tea, let the dogs out to bark at the sun and marvel at the fact that I had peace in my home.

I refused to rush today.

I let my kid sleep in and rest.

I refused to rush today.

I didn’t want to set my “fight or flight mode” into high gear and abuse my adrenal gland today.

I refused to rush today.

The work will always be here and if I let it stress me to the point that I die, they will likely not mourn me as a Black woman, list all my faults and advertise my position within 72 hours of my death.

I refused to rush today.

Jumping into rush hour traffic is never alluring or a big motivation.

I refused to rush today.

I JUST WANTED TO TAKE SOME TIME TO BE HUMAN. I WANTED TO MOVE AT MY OWN PACE. BE THANKFUL. THANK GOD FOR SMALL MERCIES. CRY A LITTLE IN THE BATHROOM. TAKE MY MEDS FOR MY CHRONIC ILLNESS AND THE 17 SUPPLEMENTS THAT GO WITH IT.

I refused to rush today.

AND I’M SURE MY HUMANITY IS BETTER FOR IT.
